HOLIDAY SEASON

I want to start with an apt quote by Dave Barry, an American writer, humor columnist  and author of Insane City:

“In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukkah' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukkah!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!”

Christmas means different things to different people...It is a time for remembering, a time to share the goodness of your heart with others, for expressing with words and presents what someone means to you, the traditional Christmas Eve dinner, traditions, songs and parties.

However, what I personally value most is making time and being nice to each other during the busy holiday season. I wish our feelings of peace and happiness lasted all year round.

Merry Xmas, and may this new year 2015 bring you joy and laughter!

THE HOBBIT

A film we have recently seen...

The Battle of Five Armies is the final episode of Peter Jackson´s film series based on J.R.R. Tolkien´s work. Starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins again - What a surprise!
The film had been released in December and came to Czech cinemas on December 11th.
It was a good reason for having a free Cinema Day and go to Cinema IMax at Flora.
The last journey to Middle-earth makes a lot of changes to the original story, although the Oscar winning filmmaker Jackson’s, adaptation of the final battle is worth seeing.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at EDUCAnet Praha

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at EDUCAnet Praha

Welcome to EUCAnet Praha Duke of Edinburgh's Award blog. Use this site for information regarding all things about DofE at our School including information regarding expeditions as well as opportunities within the School to complete the sections of the Award.

What is the DofE Award all about?

A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. You just need to be aged between 14 and 24 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by.

Levels

You can do programmes at three levels, which when completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Sections

You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you're going for Gold) - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a Residential.

You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only).

Your programme can be full of activities and projects that motivate you, and along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

DofE at EDUCAnet Praha School

Currently, EDUCAnet Praha as a DofE local centre, runs the Bronze and Silver levels of the programme. Ms Horváthová and Ms Novotná coordinate DofE to guide and supervise participants through their awards.

If you are interested in applying for a place at EDUCAnet Praha School it is recommended that you take the time to research and really understand what is required to achieve each level. Completing your DofE award at any level is great fun and well worthwhile but you must consider that it requires hard work and commitment.

This blog is a good place to start and will provide you with information relevant to participants completing their DofE at EDUCAnet Praha School. If you would like further information DofE provides a very useful website at http://www.dofe.org/ or http://www.dofe.cz/en/
